One of Anna's colleagues approaches Dan, his son has died at Bologna's prestigious Art Institute of a massive heroin overdose and he can't believe that his son took drugs at all or, as the police believe, committed suicide. He asks Dan to investigate his son's death and discover the truth.
Although there is nothing untoward and all the people Dan speaks to find it ridiculous that the boy could have been murdered, Dan just has an inkling that things don't add up.
Meanwhile, whilst he is in Bologna, Dan's friend Commissario Virgilio Pisano asks Dan to surreptitiously investigate a Florentine who has recently moved into a luxury apartment in an exclusive building in Bologna. The Florentine police suspect him of working with the US mafia, as well as drug dealing and other offences but have never been able to make charges stick.
This is yet another satisfying cosy mystery starring former UK police detective Dan and his canine sidekick Oscar. I swear every time I read one of these books I put on seven pounds!
